The White Rabbit God was deified back in the mists of time after the mother of all white rabbits, Maerwynn the Magnificent, led her rapidly expanding family across the Hils of Primrose to their now venerated homeland.
On this odyssey Maerwynn’s fame spread far and wide: she conquered all before her, as she and her entourage passed through lawlorless lands, surviving attacks from marauding musicians and similar ne’er-do-wells.
It was inevitable that her doting subjects would support her elevation from simple Queenship to God ~ they knew better than anybunny the failings of the numerous pretenders and wanted to send out a strong message that these interlopers should hop it.
The new deity finally settled and established her court in the icy wastes of Lapinland. Maerwynn’s powers now included the gift of transcending taxonomic classification among her descendants, and stories of her courage and fortitude became the stuff of legend. Her heirs display these same attributes and remain invincible and all-powerful.
The title passes down through the generations, to the coolest, brightest and most popular female of the age ~ there has never been, nor can ever be, a male white rabbit god. The males find themselves untrusted and despised wherever they go, through their lack of moral fibre and horological ineptitude. Those that have had the audacity to claim the title are soon exposed as mere cheats and fantasists (see Appendix).

- Going further back in time, another imposter who claimed to be the Rabbit Deity lived in Qing dynasty China as Hu Tianbao, 胡天保. He was attracted to an imperial inspector and was beaten to death after his infatuation was exposed.
